COVID-19 has reinforced the strength of Toronto-based waste management company GFL Environmental Inc. Over the past few weeks the company has learned a lot about its “recession resilient” business.
In mid-March through mid-April, the company saw more volume at residential homes at the curbs, which offset some of the company’s commercial volume, but they have seen that rebound over the last few weeks.
GFL Environmental has been laser focused on their existing core business, which has made the company stronger. They’ve cut costs related to travel to operations – ultimately becoming more efficient. “We’ve looked at ways to cut costs of the business that truthfully if COVID had never happened we would have never overturned some of those costs and thought there was another way to do business,”said Patrick Dovigi, CEO of GFL Environmental.
GFL Environmental will continue to focus on acquisition and organic growth.
