BFI Waste has filed a 12-count, 35-page lawsuit against Monroe Township, New Jersey.
The filing requests that the township be held liable for "an equitable share" of the BFI's costs for closing the landfill which could top $30 million. Some $5 million of that is the cost of a new sewer line.
The lawsuit focuses on actions that were taken after chemical odors began to seep into nearby homes from a sanitary sewer system.
