California's hazardous waste isn't staying in state, an investigation by CalMatters revealed.
The state is instead shipping it out to landfills in places with weaker laws, such as the La Paz County Landfill in Arizona. According to data release summer 2022, nearly half of California's hazardous waste has been shipped out of state.
While some of it went to facilities, a significant amount was just sent to regular solid waste landfills over state lines.
