Washington County, Md., officials are rebidding waste and recycling contracts after they say their current contractor proposed “excessive increases.”
The city of Montgomery piloted the RUBICONSmartCity platform for six months in 2018 and is now choosing to move the program forward by awarding a three-year contract to Rubicon Global.
SCS will provide landfill gas systems operations, maintenance and monitoring, support services and advanced technologies.
Beginning September 2, Meridian Waste will provide residents with weekly garbage collection utilizing 95-gallon carts.
The City Council approved the contract but said city staffers should have “done more to push for better terms” with Waste Management.
Covanta and Wheelabrator also will retain their residential waste contracts; the new deals are set to run July 2019 through June 2024.
