COVID-19 Sparks Downturn in U.S. Commercial Recycling
According to The Independent, there has been a 50 to 60 percent drop in commercial recycling.

The spread of COVID-19 is having an impact on the U.S. recycling industry, and according to The Independent, there has been a 50 to 60 percent drop in commercial recycling. This decrease is mainly due to non-essential businesses closing their doors, a temporary requirement in many states.

Although commercial recycling has seen a decrease, residential recycling is expected to rise, as more Americans are working from home and/or following shelter in place rules.

The Independent has more:

The novel coronavirus has seen a downturn in US recycling with a number of programmes halted and others curtailed.

There are now 14,510 deaths and 332,935 confirmed cases of Covid-19, according to the World Health Organisation, across 189 countries.

The US death toll is now more than 500 and governors across the country are being forced to consider more drastic action to contain the spread of the contagion.
