An early morning fire at a Florida recycling center has totally destroyed the building, says local firefighters.

Over the weekend, a fire broke out at the Hernando County landfill in Brooksville, Fla. Officials were called to the site’s recycling center early in the morning to see the building engulfed in flames.

Firefighters were able to put out the fire, but the building is said to be a total loss.

“This is where we stockpile and prepare for transport all of our recycling materials in the county,” said Gordon Onderdonk, Utilities Director. “We had roughly 15 tons of paper and cardboard in there and roughly 18 tons of plastics and aluminum.”

One of the key issues to getting the fire out was the lack of fire hydrants in the area, with the nearest one being miles away.
