Keystone Landfill in Lackawanna County has made a proposal to drain treated water from the facility into a nearby creek.
With a proposed 200,000 gallons of leachate-treated water to be dumped every day, local officials have some reservations about the idea. The primary concern of these officials is not whether the quality of the treated water will be good enough for this type of disposal, but whether or not there is the possibility of error or malfunction allowing untreated water to be dumped. The proposal needs to be approved by the Pennsylvania DEP before going into effect.
