Riding the entrepreneur’s learning curve to funding
Towns across Franklin County and the North Quabbin region are receiving several over $100,000 in grants to further support their recycling systems.

Thanks to the state Department of Environmental Protection’s Sustainable Materials Recovery Program, towns across Franklin County and the North Quabbin region will receive $157,635 in grants to support their recycling programs. Of the 21 towns involved in the Franklin County Solid Waste Management District, 19 were awarded a total of $101,400 in grants. The grants are calculated based on a scale created by the Sustainable Materials Recovery Program that is based on the different recycling and waste diversion programs each town offers.

“We get $100,000 for doing what we do anyway,” said Jan Ameen, executive director of the Greenfield-based Franklin County Solid Waste Management District.
