An 11th-hour deal sweetener from Naperville’s garbage hauler fell short of keeping city officials from going with a different provider.
City Council members agreed Tuesday night that hiring Waste Management to pick up garbage, bagged yard debris and Christmas trees was a better decision than renewing their contract with Republic Services. The decision came despite the current vendor’s attempt to make its price more attractive than the sum it first quoted for the agreement.
The new $22.8 million contract with Waste Management extends over four years, and residents’ garbage collection bills are not expected to change. Recycling will still be picked up by Republic Services — so the new carts will stay.
