Damian Earley, a 17-year-old from Columbus, Ohio has invented a device to keep his family trash cans from tipping over. Earley has been awarded a patent for his invention.

A 17-year-old in Columbus, Ohio was fed up with his family’s garbage can falling over, making his job of taking out the trash much more annoying, so, he took the problem into his own hands and invented a device to make his life easier.

Damian Earley, a Junior at Whetstone High School in Columbus, was tired with his garbage container being tipped over, so he invented what he called The Garbage Lot. The Garbage Lot is a locking platform that uses sand or water to weigh down receptacles with a hook attached to an axle.

The Garbage Lot has won Earley the Patent Application Award in 2021 at the Invention Convention U.S. Nationals. Now, Earley has received his patent from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

The next steps for Earley are to find a buyer for the patent, and Earley mentioned he plans to use money from the potential sale to help pay for college.
