Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt announced that he has blocked a request from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to accept a shipment of toxic waste produced by the derailment in East Palestine, Ohio.
Gov. Stitt said in his statement, “Immediately I worked with my team, Senator Lankford, Senator Mullin, and Congressman Lucas to stop the shipment from coming to our state.”
A shipment of 2,600 cubic yards of waste was headed for the Clean Harbors Lone Mountain Landfill Facility in Waynoka, Okla., but upon learning that, Gov. Stitt blocked the shipment from entering Oklahoma.
The EPA has had issues finding states willing to take on the toxic waste after the derailment in February that spread toxic chemicals into the air, soil, and water of East Palestine.
