The lead-acid storage battery has been under development for more than 160 years—it’s still the primary choice for starting your car.
On Wednesday the Energy Department gifted $74 million in grants to ten different vehicle battery recycling projects.

Ten different projects pertaining to the advancement of the recycling and reuse of batteries for electric vehicles have been awarded funding by The Energy Department. These projects received a combined $74 million from the bipartisan infrastructure law. Four of the grant winners are from California with others in Nevada, Michigan, New Jersey, Tennessee, Indiana, and Alabama. These grants are part of President Joe Biden's plan for electric vehicles to make up half of all new vehicle sales by 2030.
