Andrew Holness, Prime Minister of Jamaica has announced two sites for waste-to-energy plants have been identified for the country. In recent years, Jamaica has generated an estimated 1.4 million tons of garbage annually. In order to prevent all of this waste from going directly to landfills, Holness has said officials are looking into ways they can use their waste productively so that it does not have to be the end of its life.
The Prime Minister notes that the construction of waste-to-energy plants will be done under a public-private partnership.
