During the COVID-19 pandemic, the Salt Lake County Household Hazardous Waste Facility of Utah went out of business, and this is where locals would bring alkaline batteries to be recycled. Now, a new group in Salt Lake County is working to replace alkaline use with lithium-ion batteries.
Pale Blue, a Park City-based group is trying to achieve its goal of reducing single-use batteries and wants to replace them with lithium-based rechargeable ones.
As of now, the organization has collected 250 pounds of batteries. A small start so far but shows the early belief in this group’s initiative.
Thomas Bishop, CEO of Pale Blue believes we that lithium batteries are the future.
