WasteExpo is finally here in New Orleans from Monday, May 1 until Thursday, May 4. The most awaited waste and recycling industry event returns with a packed conference schedule and an expo hall bursting with exhibitors.

Registration opens on Monday, May 1 from 7 a.m. until 5 p.m. Here are some of Monday's featured sessions:

Food Recovery Forum

The Waste360 Food Recovery Forum is where you can learn ways to solve the social and environmental issues of wasted food as well as means to profit from the recovery and reuse of food waste.
Food Recovery Forum sessions run Monday, May 1 - Thursday, May 4 as one of WasteExpo's topical tracks.

Food Recovery Forum/Organics Keynote: Food Waste Policy Models, Opportunities, and Best Practices; Solutions for Household Food Waste Reduction; Optimizing Food Waste Recovery

This presentation will address several global trends in food waste policy and best practices that can be models for the U.S. Key opportunities for domestic food waste policy action in the U.S. will also be discussed. Discussion will include global food waste and food donation policies, based on the findings from 23 countries included in the Global Food Donation Policy Atlas, policy models related to consumer food waste reduction, and several pending and upcoming opportunities for food waste reduction policy action at the federal level in the U.S., including the 2023 Farm Bill.

Leachate Management: An Update on “Flubber” and “Black Goo”

Leachate management and treatment is one of the most important tasks of operating a landfill. But it’s not always the easiest of jobs. In this informative session, you’ll receive updates on recently funded Environmental Research & Education Foundation grant research on the generation and origins of leachate management system fouling materials, often referred to as “flubber” or “black goo.” You’ll also learn about prevention and remedial techniques and tools to address both of these fouling materials.
