Residents in Baltimore County, Md., recently found out that the glass they have been recycling has been going to landfills for the last seven years.
The local recycling facility, which receives approximately 7,000 tons of glass per year, says contamination is to blame for the landfilling of glass.
In an effort to properly recycle glass in the future, the county is ramping up education and working to find alternative options for the glass.

Residents of Baltimore County received quite the shock a few weeks ago when they found out the glass they’ve been recycling was ending up in landfills.
“It started under the previous administration,” said Stephen Lafferty, the county’s chief sustainability officer.” I think they made a financial decision to stop accepting glass,”
WJZ visited the recycling plant Tuesday. Mike Bichler, who runs the plant, said there was too much contamination.
